Engineers’ roofing screw choice for their own roof: “The only one that works”
In the summer of 2016, Pori-based construction entrepreneur and engineer Seppo Kaarnamo noticed that a roofing screw different from the previous one was being used at the roofing site he was supervising. Hämeen Laaturemontti introduced Kaarnamo to a new roofing screw that met building regulations and was the only one approved in Finland for outdoor use. It was Kingi. The properties of the roofing screw impressed Kaarnamo to such an extent that he definitely wanted it for his own upcoming project: the new roof of the home of his friend Seppo Saarivirta, who had already retired from the construction industry.
In the summer of 2017, a shiny black roofing screw and its companions adorn Saarivirta’s roof in Ulvila, Pori. The crown-shaped heads are recognizable in Ruukki’s sheet metal, and the Sepos got the king of screws on their roof. “You can only recommend this, this is the only one that works,” the construction professionals state with one voice. “Installation is very easy, as the sharp-tipped Kingi drills exactly into the spot where it is wanted, even when reaching from farther away. It does not slip to the right or left, so no extra scratches that will later rust appear on the sheet metal. Kingi does not produce shavings either, but slips very easily through even two sheets of metal,” Kaarnamo praises. “The disadvantage of drill-point screws is that when they drill a hole, they also drill into the wood beneath the fastening, which weakens the screw’s pull-out strength. Kingi does not remove material by drilling, so its fastening is better,” Kaarnamo adds.
The men received the roofing screws directly from Kingi’s factory in Nurmijärvi, and they give the customer service abundant praise. Installation went effortlessly, and the work was completed ahead of schedule. The roofing screws come with an installation bit compatible with Kingi heads, in which the screws stay in place even during faster work. This is also made possible by the slightly higher crown section of the screws themselves, which the men consider particularly good. “And it does look great when the screws are black for the next 20 years. Without Kingi, those rusty heads would already be visible in ten years,” Saarivirta rejoices.
Easy to install, no shavings, good holding strength and comprehensive warranties. These are the words the men use to describe Kingi. With the triple-coated KINGI® roofing screw, which lasts as long as the roofing sheet, there is no need to fear rusting or leakage risks. “This is an absolute winner,” Saarivirta calls out at the end.
